News Advisory:
Working to rally Americans in support of a return to constitutionally limited government, up-and-coming "third party," the Constitution Party, will hold their national convention in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, Wednesday through Saturday, June 23- 26. The convention's agenda will include the selection of the Party's 2004 presidential candidate and standard bearer, working on the latest version of the party's political platform, and planning for elections involving Constitution Party candidates nationwide. Coverage of key portions of the convention are expected by C-SPAN on satellite and cable TV nationwide.
Attorney Michael Peroutka, founder of the nationwide civics education-focused, "Institute on the Constitution," is expected to be nominated as the Party's 2004 presidential nominee. Peroutka resides in Millersville, Maryland with his wife and their three children.
The Constitution Party's 2004 campaign theme is "Honor God, Defend the Family and Restore the Republic." The convention's speakers and activities will focus on the urgency of addressing these areas in America today. Like many Americans, members of the Constitution Party feel that those presently holding political power are destroying the moral and political foundations upon which our nation was established.
"Our leaders have forsaken the true purpose of government and the true source of law and liberty," explained Peroutka. "Both major parties have adopted the presuppositions of socialism and they have abandoned the presuppositions of America. The major parties do not represent the ideas and principles upon which our country was founded. They are not American in their approach to law and government. I'm running for President because I want to help bring about a real restoration in America. I want to help to rebuild the foundations."
As unglamorous as third party politics may sometimes be, Peroutka and his fellow laborers in the Constitution Party still view their efforts with a sense of a mission, that is vital to our nation's future. And with the national debt now equaling almost $100,000 per family of four, perhaps they're right. The existence of the Constitution Party and its limited government message may be more important than ever.
Founded in 1992, the Constitution Party is the nation's third largest political party in terms of actual voter registration and is known for its strong advocacy of fidelity to the constitution, less government spending, reduced taxes and a commitment to protect life, liberty, and property.
